Hot Tapping
What happens when you have pressure trapped in tubing? Perhaps between two sections of set up cement. Or, you may have a P&A well you want to re-open. Does it have pressure on it? The answers to these questions usually are answered by performing a Hot Tap. This is a process of drilling into whatever may have pressure with a special drill the will contain the pressure if there is any there. Great White Pressure Control has built several hot tap units, and performed many hot tap operations. These units are unique in that they are able to contain up to 15,000 psi in some cases. Also, there are units designed to operate in high H2S concentrations, which can severely damage equipment that is not designed for it.
Great White Pressure Control has built 3 hot tap units, all capable of land based or off-shore operations: a small unit with long stroke capable of 5,000 psi operations; a long stroke, pressure balance unit for up to 10,000 psi, capable of on or offshore as well as sub-sea operations; and a super compact pressure balanced unit capable of 15,000 psi and high H2S concentrations.
Great White Pressure Control has also developed a versatile range of saddle clamps, ranging from 1” to 5-1/2”. Larger and custom saddles are in the works. Great White Pressure Control has even built specialized, “custom” saddles when what was being tapped was in such poor condition normal saddles, threading, or other means of attachment were not possible. All saddles are tested and rated for 15,000 psi by a third party, API certified facility.
So no matter what unique hot tap operations may arise, Great White Pressure Control and its team of Well Control experts are ready
